Head lice are tiny parasite insects that that thrive on human scalps. They survive by sucking blood from the scalp. These parasite insects, though only a tiny creature, are a menace and are known to cause many problems. One of the most irritating problems that head lice cause is constant itching of the scalp. And head lice are even more dangerous because they are very adaptable insects and are highly contagious. They can easily be transmitted from one person to the other. Head lice can affect everybody. It is particularly prominent amongst children. Schoolchildren come in contact with other children while they play and share benches and can get head lice.
If your child complains about continuous itch on his scalp, you must immediately check if he has head lice and must seek immediate treatment. Though you may find many remedies for head lice, most of them may contain toxic substances and may not be ideal to use it on children. Therefore, you must always try to use natural remedies. Some of the natural remedies you can use to help get rid of your child’s head lice are listed below:
To help your child get rid of head lice you can combine Eucalyptus, Pennyroyal and Rosemary oil. Take ½ teaspoon each and mix it with 2 ½ tablespoons of olive oil. You must apply this oil mixture on your child’s hair and if your child complains of a burning sensation, you can add more olive oil. You must wash your child’s hair with hot water after you apply the oil. After washing, tie a cotton cloth on your child’s head and leave it overnight. The next morning you may again have to wash the hair using tea-based shampoo.
Another very effective natural remedy to treat head lice is to use mayonnaise. Apply mayonnaise all over your child’s scalp, cover the scalp with any plastic wrap or shower cap and leave for about half hour. You can then wash the mayonnaise out of your child’s hair with shampoo.
You can also use combs to wipe of head lice from your child’s scalp. You must use a nit comb that has fine teeth. This is the most effective way to remove lice from your child’s head if he/she is aged under 2 years.
Though these natural remedies are very effective in removing lice from your child’s scalp, they may again face problems because, as mentioned earlier, these insects are highly contagious. Concisely, your child can get head lice more than once. Therefore, it is necessary that you teach your child that they should not share combs, caps or other things.
